This is the Livejournal office of my "Actual Size Project" They Might Burn Giants. I plan to go to Burning Man and to fulfill my sense of obligation to do "no spectators" I will sing and record every song written by my favorite band, They Might Be Giants, in wandering minstrel style or at whatever portable music installations I might find with friendly people to jam on the songs with. I will bring a songbook with the music to aid in quick musical interface.
Since I can't afford to outfit myself for the week in the desert or the printed matter I will need to pull off the project, I am applying for grants and accepting donations, as well as looking for anyone interested who can donate time or skills as [fully-credited] collaborators. Please email me at theymightburngiants@gmail.com if you would like to offer any assistance, feedback or other suggestions. Anyone who donates can have a song dedicated to them, and if you donate a significant amount you can dictate how you'd like the song to be arranged (i.e. a capella, with guitar or synth accompaniment, drum box or real drums, etc.). I will be counting on other musicians at burning man for backup, and would love to arrange to plan to meet and jam with folks out on the playa. Just let me know if you'd like to collaborate on a performance. Of course I'll be making all the recordings and any chord charts or other fakebook type material I generate available for free to anybody who's interested. I could also use help from any graphic or web artists who'd like to contribute designs and/or help build a website.
If I receive any donations in excess of my material needs for getting there and back and completing the project, I will give the money to one of the favorite charities of the guys from Brooklyn.
